Global Handwashing Day Marked in DPRK

A meeting marking the Global Handwashing Day was held at the Mangyongdae Schoolchildren's Palace on Oct.17.

Present there were officials of the Education Commission, the Ministry of Urban Management and other relevant units, schoolchildren and teachers in Pyongyang and staff members of the UNICEF mission and other missions of international organizations here.

Speakers said that millions of children are suffering diarrhea and pneumonia every year worldwide, noting that handwashing in flowing water with soap plays a big role in preventing such diseases.

They underlined the need for all people to know well about the importance of handwashing of children, in particular, and its method and make it part of their life and habit.

Then followed an explanation titled "Let us make handwashing habit".

The participants watched schoolchildren's methods of handwashing and enjoyed an art performance given by hobby group members of the palace.
