Feats Performed by Kim Jong Il for National Reunification Will Shine Long

The great leader Comrade Kim Jong Il ushered in the era of independent reunification through the publication of the June 15 joint declaration and provided a firm foundation for the victory of the cause of national reunification through the adoption of the October 4 declaration. These patriotic feats will always go down in the history of the country.

It was the firm faith of Kim Jong Il that the reunification of the country should be achieved independently by the concerted efforts of all Koreans responsible for it.

He met every challenge of the anti-reunification forces at home and abroad by dint of the ever-victorious Songun politics, providing a favorable environment for the country's reunification and ushering in a heyday of the nation-wide reunification movement.

Representing the requirements of the era for putting the inter-Korean relations rapidly developing with the advance of the era of independent reunification on a new stage of progress and the desire of the Koreans for peace and prosperity, he made sure that another round of the north-south summit was held in October, Juche 96 (2007) and the October 4 declaration, a program for implementing the June 15 joint declaration, was adopted.

By providing the October 4 declaration with his outstanding leadership Kim Jong Il enabled the Korean nation to more dynamically spur the advance of the June 15 era of reunification with a clear milestone for the development of north-south relations, peace and prosperity.

After the publication of the October 4 declaration, contact and dialogue made more brisk headway in various fields of politics, economy and military, including the north-south prime ministers talks, and joint promotion organizations were formed between the north and the south.

The adoption of the October 4 declaration prompted the Koreans to express profound reverence for Kim Jong Il who made indefatigable efforts for the unity of the north and the south and the independent reunification, more ardently loving the country and the nation than anyone else.

All Koreans in the north, the south and abroad should thoroughly preserve and implement the above-said declarations, invariably upholding them, and thus achieve the independent reunification of the country as early as possible.
