Facelifted City of Samjiyon
The city of Samjiyon in Ryanggang Province in the northern part of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea has been turned into an excellent model for ideal mountainous cultured towns.
With the completion of its third-stage renovation project, all its villages, including the remote ones, have been put on a new appearance.

Rimyongsu Valley with the perennial Rimyongsu Falls is lined harmoniously with two- and three-storied apartment blocks, terraced houses, folk hotel, noodle house and various other structures of national form.
Houses and public buildings are nature-friendly and environment-friendly in that they are painted and roofed in various colours which go well with the primeval forest of the Paektu Plateau, while sustaining the natural geographical features of the mountainous area.
New houses have been built in the city’s remotest village which is inhabited only by a few families.
Having been provided with excellent new houses free of charge, the local people were deeply moved by the benevolence the Workers’ Party of Korea.
General Secretary
Whenever he visited Samjiyon, he set a higher target of the renovation project and led the effort to build the city at the highest level.
During his field guidance at the city in November this year he stressed the need to bring about a radical turn in the effort to develop local construction and civilize the whole society by proactively generalizing the excellent experience gained in the construction of the city.
That day, on hearing a report that the local people were singing praise of the benevolence of the WPK rejoicing at the change of the city, he said he felt pride in having done worthwhile work welcomed by the people, that the people’s opinion equated to the general evaluation of the city’s renovation work and that he was much satisfied. He then wished the local people happiness and wellbeing.
