Patterned Savory Cake, Korean National Dish

 

Patterned savory cake, a sweet and tasty national dish, has been used in the Korean people's diet from long ago.

In the period of Koryo (918-1392), the patterned savory cake was regarded as a court dish and as a rare dish only for the nobility. In the period of the feudal Joson dynasty (1392-1910), it was generalized in the dietary life of the people and became a must dish in ceremonies like wedding ceremony.

The dish, associated with wisdom of the nation, is now being served at public catering establishments as a popular dish.

The patterned savory cake, made with potato farina produced at the Samjiyon Potato Farina Production Factory, is popular among the people as it is high in nutritive and medical values. The Mansugyo Soft Drinks in Pyongyang is famous for the patterned savory cake.
