Young Koreans Grow up into Heroes of the Times

Young Koreans are giving full play to their resourcefulness and courage in socialist construction.

The Paektusan Hero Youth Power Station is one of monumental structures they built by dint of their indomitable spirit, heroic struggle and creative wisdom.

Its construction was an unprecedentedly arduous, grandiose nature-remaking project in which they had to overcome the most unfavourable physiographical conditions in the history of building hydroelectric power stations in the country. Even in the face of the worst trials and difficulties such as the northern climate conditions of biting cold about 30℃ below zero and heavy snowfall and adverse transport conditions in winter, they successfully built Paektusan Hero Youth Power Station units 1, 2 and 3 in a year.

Young people are working one miracle and innovation after another in different parts of the country. They devote their precious youth to firmly defending the destinies of the country and people at the posts of national defence. Young scientists take the lead in pushing back the frontiers of cutting-edge science and technology. A large number of young people carry out their yearly national economic plans ahead of schedule and increase crop yields. Their enthusiasm to volunteer to work in every major front of socialist construction grows stronger as the days go by. They are the heroes and pioneers of noble virtues who promote communal harmony, helping and leading one another forward.

If the Korean youths replete with vigour and vitality are likened to a flower, the essential nourishment for its growth is the love and trust of Kim Jong Un, general secretary of the Workers’ Party of Korea, for them.

Saying that when young people are powerful, the Party, the army and the country grow powerful, he clarified it as the eternal strategic line of the WPK to prioritize the young people.

After reading the letter from young people in January Juche 101 (2012), he sent them his reply that a prosperous tomorrow would be achieved earlier by the young people taking vigorous steps. In August that year, he sent a message of congratulations to the participants in the Youth Day (August 28) Celebration Conference and other young people across the country on his inspection trip to far-off frontline units. In May Juche 104 (2015), he had a photo session with the participants in the Second National Conference of Exemplary Young People of Virtue.

He named the “Paektusan Hero Youth Power Station”. During his several rounds of inspection of its construction site, he spoke highly of their feats and took a measure to build a Paektusan Hero Youth Exhibition Hall so as to hand down their exploits to the coming generations.

In April this year, he sent a letter “Demonstrate to the Full the Might of the Socialist Patriotic Youth League on the Historic March Towards a Fresh Victory in the Revolution” to the Tenth Congress of the youth league, an important work which represented his great ambition to usher in a new heyday of the Korean youth movement in a more vigorous way. In the letter, he noted that the Party Central Committee set a goal of bringing about a landmark development in the Korean-style socialist construction as it believed in their ardent aspiration and unquenchable strength. And he stressed that the basic task facing the youth league at present is to train all young people into patriots who staunchly defend socialism and work with devotion for its construction.

On August 30 when he met young people who had volunteered to work in major fields of the national economy, he highly appreciated their deeds and spiritual world and earnestly called on the young people to become an initial spark and a great fire in the on-going gigantic general advance and to become youth heroes endeavouring to bring about prosperity and progress of the country with gem-like patriotism.

True to the idea and leadership of Kim Jong Un, the young Koreans are preparing themselves into genuine builders of socialism and heroes of the times.
