Single-hearted Unity–National Trait of the DPRK

A Korean saying goes that strength and mind joined together will prevail over Heaven. This implies that unity is the most important thing, and that there is nothing impossible if one achieves unity.

The Democratic People’s Republic of Korea is a country of single-hearted unity, in which the leader and the people have achieved a firm unity with a single purpose and mind. The single-hearted unity bases itself on the ardent love and boundless devotion of the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un for his people.

General Secretary Kim Jong Un of the Workers’ Party of Korea holds the people dear and bestows parental love on them. Whenever he meets with children, he accepts their unceremonious request to have a photo taken with them in his embrace. When he meets war veterans, he makes a deep bow to them, repeatedly wishing them good health.

When he visited the families of working people, who had moved into their new flats on Changjon Street in Pyongyang in September Juche 101 (2012), he congratulated them on moving into their new houses, offering toasts to them. He also posed for pictures with each family as if they were his own family members. During his visit to the Kangwon Provincial Tree Nursery, he called at the house of a new couple of discharged soldiers who were working there and the family of triplet sisters who had volunteered to work in the city of Samjiyon, he gave pep talks to them, taking warm care of their living.

Regarding people’s happiness as his greatest pleasure, he is making tireless thinking and painstaking efforts, saying he would pluck a star from the sky if it were for their sake. He also finds his delight in relieving people of their misfortune and pain.

The WPK convened an enlarged meeting of its Central Military Commission on August 27, Juche 104 (2015) in the capital city of Pyongyang. The first agenda item of the meeting, which would discuss the strategic problems related to the defence of the country, was the campaign for rehabilitating the city of Rason from flood damage. After issuing an order in the name of the Supreme Commander that the Korean People’s Army should take full responsibility for the campaign before the founding anniversary of the WPK (October 10), Kim Jong Un travelled a long and arduous road to the afflicted city in the northernmost part of the country. When he was informed that the campaign was crowned with a success, he was so pleased that he made his way to Paekhak-dong in the then Sonbong area, Rason, by plane, by ship and by vehicle, prior to the ceremony for moving into new houses.

Last year when several parts of the country were hit by unexpected flooding and typhoons, he drove his car to the flood-stricken Taechong-ri in Unpha County, North Hwanghae Province, and inspected the Komdok area, the train carrying him running over a temporary bridge whose piers had been built with logs.

The Korean people feel warm human feeling and affection of Kim Jong Un as he calls them a grateful, excellent and great people whom he wants to defend to the last, even though his body might be scattered like the grains of sand on the road for their good.

Attracted by his noble view on them, they express boundless admiration and respect for him and trust in and follow him faithfully. They regard it as the greatest happiness of their life to meet Kim Jong Un and keep the souvenir photos taken with him as their family treasure.

Their ardent yearning for him is being manifested in their fervent loyalty to him. The working people in different parts of the country always cherish deep in their hearts Pyongyang where he is, performing brilliant feats of labour in their workplaces. Young people volunteer to work at major sectors of the national economy and to teach at schools on far-flung islands, frontline areas and remote mountain villages.

They are united firmly with a feeling of kinship in faithfully supporting the intentions and leadership of Kim Jong Un. Regarding others’ pain as their own, they never hesitate to dedicate their lives, to say nothing of their bones and flesh, for others—this has become part of their ennobling traits. They prefer to use the word we to I, and they give fuller play to their noble virtues, the beautiful trait of helping and leading one another forward, holding aloft the slogan “One for all and all for one!”

They are stepping up more dynamically the advance towards a fresh progress of socialist construction, in hearty response to the tasks advanced in the policy speech Kim Jong Un delivered at the Fifth Session of the 14th Supreme People’s Assembly of the DPRK in September 2021.

The single-hearted unity of the leader and the people constitutes a national practice of the DPRK.

This national trait is the great strength with which the DPRK can give constant momentum to the victorious advance of socialism by braving all the challenges and trials.
