Self-Respect and Prosperity

Self-respect is the road to development and prosperity.

The respected Comrade Kim Jong Un said that self-respect constitutes our life and soul and the fundamental cornerstone and basis of the revolution. At the Seventh Congress of the Workers’ Party of Korea (May 2016), he stressed: We have nothing but our own strength to rely on; it is only when we are possessed of the spirit of self-reliance and self-development that we can go through any trials and hardships and achieve the greatest success even in the worst conditions.

In reflection of his faith and will to open up an avenue to development and prosperity in our own way, he put forward the slogan “Let us accelerate the victorious advance of socialism with the great spirit of self-reliance and self-development as the dynamic force!” in his New Year Address for Juche 106 (2017). In his policy speech delivered at the First Session of the 14th Supreme People’s Assembly of the DPRK (April 2019), he also clarified that building socialism by its own efforts according to the revolutionary line of independence is the basic principle the DPRK must invariably maintain in State building.

During his on-site guidance trips, he stressed the need to cherish the truth that achieving prosperity through self-reliance is our immutable road of development.

In August Juche 105 (2016), he looked round the acrylic paint production line newly-installed at the Sunchon Chemical Complex, and said: It is another brilliant achievement made in the chemical industry that the line was installed and operated by relying on our indigenous technology, raw materials and equipment; this fact eloquently shows that there is no fortress that we cannot conquer so long as we advance under the uplifted banner of self-development first.

When visiting the Wonsan Army-People Power Station the people in Kangwon Province built by their own efforts, he noted that the power station clearly proved once again the fact that self-reliance is the only way to survive and that there is nothing impossible if we regard self-reliance and self-development as the motive power.

True to his intention that they should create their own things which can represent them and that they should beat the world by their own efforts, the Korean people are achieving miraculous and innovative successes one after another.

Breakthrough are being made in putting the metallurgical and chemical industries, twin pillars supporting the country’s independent economy, on a Juche and self-supporting basis, and a series of achievements are being made in several other sectors of the national economy. Model factories in the era of the knowledge economy have mushroomed in different parts of the country, and sci-tech research findings of great importance in developing the economy and improving the people’s living standards are being produced. The agricultural sector is waging an intensive drive for scientific farming and high yield.

Such structures as the Munsu Water Park, Mirim Riding Club, Masikryong Ski Resort, Yonphung Scientists Holiday Camp, Sci-Tech Complex, Paektusan Hero Youth Power Station, and Yangdok Hot Spring Resort have been built by dint of self-reliance and self-development in various parts of the country.

The national defence capabilities are being steadily built up to defend the country and the people, ensure the security of the country and create a peaceful environment.

Under the leadership of General Secretary Kim Jong Un of the Workers’ Party of Korea, the Korean people are opening up the way to prosperity by their own efforts by regarding self-reliance as a treasured sword for prosperity.
