Pipha Seal Registered as Natural Monument

Recently, the Pipha seal was registered as a natural monument in the DPRK.

In Rason City, there is a cape named after pipha (a Korean mandolin) for its appearance.

Cape Pipha, which is rich in marine products, provides a habitat for seals.

The Pipha seal is 1.5 to 2 metres long and weighs 120 to 150 kilograms.

It inhabits the seawater off Cape Pipha from spring to autumn every year, feeding on fish and cephalopod like octopus and squid.

With its registration as a natural monument, the protection of the seal is to be conducted amid the concern of the country.
