Guidance to Winter River-crossing
Attack Tactical Drill
The purpose of the drill was to let sub-units of tankmen and armoured infantrymen conduct forced crossing and pursuit combat so that they may acquire the methods of coordinated operation and combat to wipe out under the cover of flying corps the enemy troops that rapidly went over to defence and thus confirm the feasibility of the operation and combat plan and further round off the combat preparations.
At the observation post the Supreme Leader received a report of the commander of the First Tank and Armoured Infantry Regiment of the Seoul Ryu Kyong Su Guards 105th Tank Division of the Korean People's Army and issued an order to start the drill.
An engineering reconnaissance was conducted before combatants crossed the frozen river like the lightning. Then they stormed and occupied the heights of the enemy on the opposite bank of the river all of a sudden before moving to the depth of its area and fire power strike means of the regiment pounded the "enemy" bases.
Upon receiving the call of the regiment for fire support, helicopter gunships made successive merciless air raids on the targets.
The rumbling of amphibious tanks and armoured cars crossing the river and the sound of blowing up ice for building floating-bridges seemed to rock heaven and earth.
The crossing ground was reminiscent of a cauldron as tanks and armoured cars broke through the "enemy's" defense line like the wind and made a hot pursuit of the fleeing enemy troops.
Pleased to see the successful training, the Supreme Leader highly praised the Seoul Ryu Kyong Su Guards 105th Tank Division of the Korean People's Army, saying it is distinguished, indeed, as it is widely known to be the strongest in the People's Army.
He underscored the need for the People's Army to frequently organize more similar high-intensity rehearsals under the simulated conditions of a real war in the future, irrespective of seasons and day and night to suit the natural and geographical and climatic features of Korea so as to steadily study and round off the combat methods and accumulate a wealth of combat experience. He called for more firmly preparing all tanks and armoured cars of the People's Army so that they may perform any operation and combat duty independently and proactively and thus overcome mountains, marshlands, rivers and streams in the theatres of offensive operations in the southern part at one go and wipe out the US imperialists and the south Korean puppet forces like the lightning.
He gave instructions which would serve as guidelines for rounding off the combat preparations of the KPA.
He stressed that its service personnel should make their training more intensive the way the anti-Japanese guerrillas did in Mt Paektu as required by the Party's policy of bringing about a radical turn in training, always bearing in mind that their training leads to the square of a military parade celebrating national reunification and the buildup of force of arms guarantees the victorious advance of the Korean revolution and a bright future of the socialist country.
