Origination of the Appellation of Koryo

The appellation of Koryo came from Koguryo, the most powerful state in the history of the Korean nation.

It reflected Koryo’s aspiration to succeed and realize Koguryo’s desire of unification of the Korean nation and thus build a country as powerful as Koguryo.
