Island Defending Unit Inspected

Kim Jong Un, Chairman of the Workers’ Party of Korea, Chairman of the DPRK State Affairs Commission and Supreme Commander of the Korean People’s Army, inspected the Mahap Island Defending Unit on the western front.

He was accompanied by KPA Vice Marshal Hwang Pyong So, director of the KPA General Political Bureau, and other senior officials.

As he looked round the unit’s headquarters and the barracks, education rooms and mess halls of different companies, he gave pep talks to soldiers and showed close concern for their living.

He got familiar with the supply service for service personnel and education of their children and told the accompanying officers to take special care of the service personnel and their families so that they do not miss life on land.

On an observation post, he was briefed on the unit’s fire strike plan and acquainted himself with the deployment of artillery pieces and combat preparedness. He gave instructions related to the unit’s completion of combat preparedness, including the building of the officers’ capacity to organize and command fire strike operations and the amendment and supplementation of operational documents in keeping with the changing enemy movements.

The Supreme Commander ordered the third gun of the second platoon of the first company of the unit to move from its emplacement and strike a target.

Overseeing the live-fire drill, he highly appreciated the result of the firing, and had a photograph taken with the gunners.

He gave the unit a pair of binoculars, automatic rifle and machine gun as gifts and had a photo session with all the service personnel of the unit and their families.
