Along with National Flag
September 9 Juche 37 (1948) is the birthday of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea. The history of the DPRK spanning nearly 70 years is adorned with proud years of struggle when it followed the road of victory and glory under the banner of independence along with its national flag.
The Korean people who had been subjected to colonial slavery during the military occupation by the Japanese imperialists (1905-1945) greeted the great event of national liberation on August 15 1945.
Since its birth, the DPRK has vigorously pushed forward the building of a prosperous, independent and sovereign state in order to realize the independent ideal and desire of the masses of the people, while demonstrating its dignity and might as a full-fledged independent and sovereign state.
The two-year-old DPRK beat back the armed invasion of the US imperialists who had boasted of being the “strongest” in the world in the Fatherland Liberation War (1950-1953), thus defending its national sovereignty and dignity.
The US imperialists claimed that the DPRK would not be able to rise to its feet again in a hundred years. However, the DPRK completed its postwar reconstruction in a matter of three years, established a socialist system in Juche 47 (1958) and carried out the task of socialist industrialization in 14 years, flatly rejecting the demand of the great powers which insisted its entry into the CMEA (Council for Mutual Economic Assistance).
The Korean people manufactured various kinds of large-sized machines and other facilities on the strength of the independent national economy and built the West Sea Barrage and other monumental structures with their own strength, technology and resources. In the course of this, they advanced the revolution and construction in accordance with the specific demands and actual conditions of the country under the slogan “Let us live our own way!”, thus bringing about a great upswing in socialist economic construction and ushering in a golden age of socialist culture.
The early 1990s witnessed the tragic situation in which socialism collapsed in some countries. In these trying years, too, the DPRK has advanced straight along the road of socialism, flying high its national flag.
Since the 1960s it has channelled primary efforts into building up its self-reliant defence capability, holding fast to the line of carrying out economic construction in parallel with defence buildup. Since the mid-1990s when it was undergoing difficulties, the DPRK has administered the original mode of Songun politics in an all-round way to safeguard the sovereignty and dignity of the country and the people. To cope with the ever-intensifying US-led imperialists’ war provocations and nuclear threats and blackmail, the DPRK has demonstrated to the full its dignity and might as a nuclear state by strictly adhering to the line of simultaneously promoting economic construction and upbuilding of the nuclear forces.
As seen above, it has always taken the initiative in the showdown with the United States lasting over half a century, registering one victory after another.
In the DPRK promotion of people’s wellbeing is the supreme principle of the Workers’ Party of Korea and the State in their activities. In this country there is no exploitation by the sweat of the brows of workers and all the people live in good harmony with stabilized jobs, helping each other. Under the socialist system they enjoy democratic freedom and rights in all spheres of social life and lead a worthwhile life as masters of the state and society. Universal free medical care and education systems, recuperation and relaxation systems and other social benefits have been invariably enforced and are expanding.
In recent years, a new Pyongyang speed has been created with the result that apartment houses for teaching staff of
