Brain Multi-detector CT Developed

The Faculty of Electronics at Kim Chaek University of Technology has developed a Brain MDCT.

With information technology making rapid progress, the proportion of the use of image information is on the rise and in turn “image medicine” is taking a leading position in the clinical field.

CT is indispensable to clinical practice.

It has so far been made in Germany, the Netherlands, the US and Japan.

According to the statistics available of 60 to 70 per cent of patients that undergo CT need tomography on the brain. Therefore, the faculty conducted research into the brain multi-detector CT in recent years and succeeded to develop it in a Korean style.

It brings great economic benefits.

The machine works in the locally-developed operating system.

The OS of the new MDCT including basic design is unique and the cost is one fourth to one fifth of foreign machines.

It is equipped with the vacuum impregnation technology and process as well as the technology of producing high-voltage generator at home.

The researchers set an optimum operating condition of detector and developed a data management system which collects large-capacity data in real time and transmits the collected data from gentry to computer also in real time.

Particularly, they have developed a system which precisely controls the gantry and bed and acquired an image recomposition technology, regarded as know-how technology in the world, to realize 2D and 3D recomposition.

The examination technology of the MDCT is also widely applied to the industrial field, for example, to the precision processing of casting material and machine products.
