Visit to Children’s Palace

Kim Jong Un, First Secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea, First Chairman of the DPRK National Defence Commission and Supreme Commander of the Korean People's Army, visited the Mangyongdae Schoolchildren’s Palace which has undergone a facelift in line with the demands of the new century.

He was accompanied by Kim Yang Gon, Ri Il Hwan, Jo Yong Won and Ma Won Chun.

Enjoying the overall view of the palace, he said that the palace looks majestic and wonderful with its exterior decorated with granite and first-rate building materials. He described the palace as a monument that showcases the advantage of Korean socialism.

At the entrance hall, he said that a handwritten instruction of President Kim Il Sung was inscribed brightly and respectfully, adding that reading each word of the instruction he could keenly realize how much the President had loved children.

He looked round the newly arranged rooms dedicated to education with revolutionary relics and their preservation.

He also made the rounds of the palace to inquire about details of the renovation and preparations for operation.

The science hall with a large Korean relief map and a replica of Unha-3 carrier rocket blasting off is specific, he said, and the art hall is finely arranged to meet the child sentiment and to make the group members have a rest and make a presentation of their skills.

He was pleased to see the science building that houses the rooms for sci-tech groups, particularly computer and physics ones, remodelled and every room equipped with latest facilities. The facilities for embroidery, calligraphy, kayagum, accordion, female chorus and vocal music groups, as well as general training halls for national instrumental music and electronic ensemble, are flawless, he noted.

The theatre with a seating capacity of 2 000 and sports facilities like swimming pool and gym are fine, and the outdoor playing ground and driving training ground go well with the surrounding environment, he stated.

Saying that the palace is a comprehensive base for schoolchildren’s extra-curricular activities, he gave important instructions on its management and operation and took measures.

He highly appreciated the feats of the designers and soldier builders who have made a great contribution to providing another asset to posterity by rebuilding the palace to be impeccable even in the distant future.

He stressed the need to make strenuous efforts to provide the schoolchildren with better living conditions and environment, true to the great leaders’ instructions that nothing should be spared for children.
