Visit to Rebuilt City in Northern Area

Kim Jong Un, First Secretary of the Workers’ Party of Korea, First Chairman of the DPRK National Defence Commission and Supreme Commander of the Korean People’s Army, visited Paekhak-dong, Sonbong, Rason City which has recovered from flood damage in the run-up to the 70th anniversary of the Workers’ Party of Korea.

He was accompanied by Hwang Pyong So, Kim Ki Nam, Kim Yang Gon, O Su Yong, Jo Yong Won, Kim Yo Jong and Ma Won Chun.

In September he inspected the northern-tip city afflicted by flood damage and specified tasks of launching a campaign to rehabilitate the city by enlisting the concerted efforts of the army and people.

In a matter of a month since then, at least 1 300 one-storey homes have sprung up in Paekhak-dong, Songbong, and over 500 dwellings built in Chonggye-dong, Yuhyon-dong, Kwangok-dong and other places in harmony with nearby scenery.

After being told that the rehabilitation project was finished, Kim Jong Un had ensured that lots of consumer goods were provided to the residents in the afflicted areas, including TV sets, clothes, hard glassware, foods, matches and toilet paper.

Making the rounds of new homes, he inquired about details of the construction and preparations for moving to new houses. He expressed great satisfaction over the fact that all the houses have been built wonderfully so that people could enjoy a happy and civilized life to the full.

He delightfully feasted his eyes on the picturesque view of dwelling houses in rows, and said nothing is more important than works for people.

The recovery project was an unprecedentedly labourious and uphill task but he fully believed in the People’s Army, he said. And he added that the People’s Army, which has sweated blood to do lots of good jobs for the country and people, added yet another page to the annals of the country’s history and the history of the Party’s struggle is being made with the sweat and blood shed by the patriotic and loyal servicemen and people.

He gave thanks to all the military units involved in the project on behalf of the Workers’ Party of Korea.

He waited an hour and a half before tens of thousands of soldier builders got together to be honoured to have photographs taken with him against the newly built houses.
