Visit to Consumer Goods Show

Kim Jong Un, First Secretary of the Workers’ Party of Korea, First Chairman of the DPRK National Defence Commission and Supreme Commander of the Korean People’s Army, visited the venue of the consumer goods show in the armaments industry.

He was accompanied by Choe Ryong Hae, Kim Yang Gon and other senior officials.

On display were at least 1 800 kinds of daily necessities made by industrial establishments in the sector, including plastic and metal products, electrical appliances for home use, toys, hard glassware and furniture.

He looked round the venue and inquired about details of the kinds and quality of the exhibits. Every exhibit is associated with the earnest mind of the officials and workers in the sector who are working hard to help improve the people’s living standards, he said.

It has been over 60 years since President Kim Il Sung proposed producing consumer goods in the armaments industry in August 1954, he said, adding that the movement has developed into a patriotic one conducted by the workers in the sector for the Party and the state. Officials in the sector should uphold the work as a crucial political issue and push ahead with it in a consistent manner, he stated.

He pointed to the need to make strenuous efforts to ensure a considerable increase of the kinds and quality of the daily necessities as well as modernization of the production bases.

It is of no use to mass-produce products no people choose to buy, he noted. What is important, he emphasized, is to understand public demands sensitively and channel efforts into the production of those products which can satisfy their demands.

He said he would settle the problems arising in the production and help the sector as much as he could. The sector should draw an ambitious plan and push it in a courageous way, he added.
