Inspection of Near-complete Power Station

Kim Jong Un, First Secretary of the Workers’ Party of Korea, First Chairman of the DPRK National Defence Commission and Supreme Commander of the Korean People’s Army, provided on-the-spot guidance to the construction site of the Paektusan Hero Youth Power Station that is nearing completion.

He was accompanied by Choe Ryong Hae, secretary of the WPK Central Committee, and Jo Yong Won, deputy director of the WPK Central Committee.

The members of the youth shock brigade waged an intensive struggle in close cooperation with service members of the People's Army and carried out an amount of work that is huger than what they have done in the past decade in a little over four months, achieving praiseworthy success unprecedented in the history of hydropower plant construction.

Shaking hands with each of the commanding personnel of the shock brigade, the supreme leader said young men and women fought a fierce battle day and night for over 120 days after he visited the construction site in April, thereby creating a world-startling legend of heroic youth. Calling all the Korean youths as heroes, he named the power plant “Paektusan Hero Youth Power Station”.

After seeing the monument to the revolutionary activities of the peerlessly great persons of Mt Paektu, he named the education room under construction “Paektusan Hero Youth Exploits Exhibition Hall”.

He got familiar with the progress of construction as he made the rounds of different places such as the dams of power stations Nos. 1 and 2 and the waterway tunnel, generator and control rooms and outdoor substation of power station No. 2.

As he saw the towering dam of power station No. 1 from different places, he said it feels like seeing the sky-high spirit of the Korean youths at an upward sight and an army of young people forming the citadel and shield to defend the Party Central Committee at a distant view. He likened the height of the dam to the height of patriotism of the Korean youths and that of a youth power.

Saying the dam and waterway tunnel of power station No. 2 cannot be seen indifferently and its generating and control rooms and substation were built well, he pointed to the need to try out equipment as soon as possible as its assembly has been completed and establish an integrated control system in which automation and IT have been introduced at a high level so that stations Nos. 1 and 2 can be operated on a regular basis.

He gave thanks to workers of different industrial establishments including the Taean Heavy Machine Complex which performed labour feats in the manufacture and supply of ordered equipment.

After seeing the transmission towers and lines stretching from the Paektusan Hero Youth Power Station to Samjiyon County with satisfaction, he looked round the dwelling houses newly built for the people who had lived in the submerged area.

The significance of the completion of the power station to mark the 70th anniversary of the WPK not only lies in splendidly adorning the grand festival of October but also in powerfully demonstrating the validity of the leadership of President Kim Il Sung, Chairman Kim Jong Il and the Party that had trained youths as the reserves, pathfinder and wing of the Party in line with the requirements of the developing revolution, which takes on a protracted character, since the initial days of the founding of the Party, he noted.

Through the construction the Korean young men and women have eloquently proved once again that they are playing a vanguard role in implementing the Party’s decision and they are really powerful, he emphasized.

It is the consistent strategic line and policy of our Party to raise them as the masters of the times and let them put up the nameplate at the gates of a thriving nation before others, he said, adding that all the young people should carry on the proud tradition of Korean youth to build up more eternal assets of the country to be handed down to posterity.

He saw performance given by the mobile artistic motivational team of the power station Song of Faith Sung by Paektu Youth and had a photograph taken with its members.
