After graduation from Pyongyang Medical College in 1986, Jong started his career as a lecturer and medical worker there. He has steadily intensified his research to improve the quality of medical services, put treatment on a scientific footing and reduce the consumption of medicines.
He worked out afresh the manual of diagnosing and curing the diseases of the digestive system and applied it to the clinical practice. As a result, he realized the integration of clinical activities and scientific research and made clear the economic effectiveness of treatment of patients with nonvariceal gastrointestinal bleeding (enhancement of the ability to predict re-bleeding and mortality rates and reduction of duration of hospital stay and medical cost). Thus, he made it possible to assess the patient’s conditions in an objective way.
Based on his analysis of over ten kinds of clinical scoring systems recognized in the medical world, which are being applied to predicting the outcome of patients with nonvariceal gastrointestinal bleeding, including gastrointestinal tract bleeding, he found out their limitations of the time and made clear the order of accuracy of the scoring systems as of today, and proved in a present-day mathematical method what kind of systems can be used as the most reasonable predictors for re-bleeding and mortality.
He completed this article in collaboration with medical workers of younger generations. He inherited the world-recognized assessment systems and developed them as required by the present reality. He applied the method of eliciting a new truth from them and gave an answer to the burning question of the medical world.
“We have just drawn our own conclusion which corresponds to the digitalized medical world,” he says.
