Aphorisms of Kim Jong Il 　    To expect victory in a revolution without a leader is as good as wishing for a flower where there is no sun. No famous man is without filial devotion and no great man without loyalty. Loyalty and filial devotion are the supreme qualities of a revolutionary. The strongest weapon of all is a mind in which loyalty and filial devotion act in unison. The height of loyalty and filial devolution is the height of happiness. There can be a flaw in a gem, but not in loyalty or filial devotion. Loyalty is not bought with money but is won with the heart. To forsake loyalty and filial devotion is to lose one’s life. While loyalty and filial devotion invigorate the revolution, ulterior motives poison it. A loyal man comes to the fore in times of hardship. Both loyal and treacherous men are all around us. A loyal man lives forever but a traitor is soon forgotten. The loyal man’s mouth is in his heart, while a traitor’s heart is on the tip of his tongue. Loyalty and treachery can neither live under one roof nor eat from the same pot. The Juche idea is my political philosophy.    Poverty of philosophy results in the poverty of thought, which in turn ends in the poverty of creation. Man,not money, is most valuable in the world. Reality is a fine school and the popular masses are fine teachers. Work is done by people; revolution is carried out by the masses. A thick forest consists of individual trees. Trust produces loyalty, mistrust leads to betrayal. A treacherous man has a honeyed tongue and carries a knife in his belly. The popular masses are teachers in everything. The eyes of the masses are always full of wisdom. Talent lies among the masses. People's thought, not their social origin, is what carries out a revolution. Trust raises a man to a high level. Strength plus trust will prevail over Heaven. The knack of moving a man's mind lies in your mind.    The proverb has itthat a home is bought for 800 pounds of gold and a neighbour for 1,000 pounds, but a revolutionary comrade cannot be bought even for 1,000 pounds of gold.    There can be no mathematical rounding down or rounding up when dealing with the political integrity of people. A man with no love for people will never carry out the revolution. A man who does not love his comrade cannot be loved by him. A man whose parents are revolutionaries does not himself automatically become a revolutionary. Love and hatred are two facets of the same passion. Self-knowledge makes one a revolutionary; ignorance of self makes one a slave. On the road of revolution, both life and death are honorable. Conscience mirrors one's behavior and tells trust from falsehood. Conscience is the criterion for one's trustfulness and worth. Conscience and heart are one and the same thing. Repaying love with love is a good tendency in man. The best medicine is a doctor's devotion. The only way to measure the value of something new is to use a new yardstick. Without independence one can create nothing new. He who says that something is impossible is not speaking the Korean language. Nothing is impossible for a man who loves the future. Writing is the product of knowledge and passion. A man sees, hears, feels and absorbs only as much as he can understand. A man expresses himself with as much as he knows. Loving and treasuring our own things means patriotism and Juche. Before becoming a scientist, be an ardent patriot first. One may read foreign books, but one's soul must stay in one's own country. Genuine patriotism is in the struggle for national reunification. Korea is an organism that can survive when whole, but cannot when bisected.    Slowing down one step in the education of the younger generation means ten steps delay in the advance of the country. A house with slanting pillars will soon fall down. What a man says shows what he is. A word can suggest more than what it says. A verbose speaker has little to say. To speak is to act. Literature is the art of language. A revolutionary poem can replace ten million spears and swords. Art is the product of ideas and passion. Where there is life, there will be music and song. Life without music is a garden without flowers. True poetic words are the words used by the people. The text of a song must be a refined poem. Music is the art of melody. Stereotyping is a barrier between literature and readers. The popular masses are the wisest critics. Architecture is a mixed art. One who does not appreciate the beauty of flowers will never know how to grow them. Uprightness is the best rule of conduct. The source of all great creation is passion. Loyalty stands out not in a good situation but in a difficult one. Loyalty and treachery can neither live under one roof nor eat from the same pot. A loyal man opens his heart; a traitor keeps his tightly closed. Foresight is the beacon of a great man. Political philosophy is the compass of leadership. Poverty of philosophy results in a poverty of politics. It is not money or a nuclear bomb that moves the world, but a great idea. Weak in judgement, strong in prejudice. He who neglects thinking is a great loafer. Find a great thing in the commonplace; see a great thing in the small. Dim eyes miss the target. Think one hundred times and choose once. A man's height is the height of his thought. A man is strong when he knows himself, weak when he does not. A strong man believes in himself; a weak man in others. Noble in idea and aim, noble in character. Beauty lies in one's ideas, not in one's looks. A shout devoid of creativity is merely thunder without rain. A creation reflects the face of its creator. Do not wait for other's creations; give your creation to others. Creation is discovery while imitation is repetition. Live our own way; fight our own way; create our own way. Man's noblest joy comes from creation.    A miracle is not an accidental gift from Heaven; it is something inevitable, and it is given by the people. The man who believes in the people gets to drink the elixir of life, while the man who turns his back on them comes in for poison. A flaw in even one single creation remains an eternal blot on the creator's career. Do not regret after you have created something; think deeply before creating it.    For a skilful rider a horse runs one thousand miles at a gallop; for a poor rider it crawls at a donkey's pace. Speed is determined by the hearts of the popular masses. He is a fool that expects favors of others.    The man who lives off himself will be prosperous, while the man who lives off others will go to ruin. A scrap of iron in your own house is better than a lump of gold in your neighbour's.
