Tax-free land

Now the people of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea enjoy a happy life in the tax-free society under the care of the government.

Tax was completely abolished on April 1, Juche 63 (1974) in the DPRK.

Thus, it has become the first tax-free country in the world.

The tax system was established as a means for state administration since the states were formed in the world and it has imposed immeasurable miseries and sufferings upon the people.

In the capitalist countries, therefore, it is said “inescapable are the death and tax.” People in those countries are hard pressed to pay hundreds of kinds of taxes.

An American critic said in an article about the inequality and public sufferings due to taxes in the United States, “The eighty percent of the population in the United States are suffering from non-rights and taxes.”  .

Thirty years ago, however, the people’s centuries-long wish to live in a tax-free society was satisfied in the DPRK.

The project to abolish the taxation began as President Kim Il Sung presented the far-reaching plan to realize a beneficial tax system in “The Ten-point Program of the Association for the Restoration of the Fatherland” in 1936 before the liberation of Korea from the Japanese colonial rule.

After liberating the country, he matured his plan to do away with the plunderous tax system the Japanese imperialists had established, gradually lighten the working people of the tax burden as conditions and possibility were created and finally repeal the system.

On March 21, Juche 63(1974) he had the law “On Abolishing the Tax System” be proclaimed, which began to be enforced on April 1 that year, and thus the DPRK has become the first tax-free country in the world. The DPRK has become a proud country that terminated the centuries-old tax system first in the world.

It is the only tax-free country among 200-odd countries in the world.

The world people wonder at the abolition of the tax system in the DPRK. They say, “The abolition of the tax system is a historic event to be recorded with red letters in the human history” and “There is another truth that the state can exist without tax.”

The complete abolition of the tax system, an old system which inflicted tears and miseries upon the people through thousands of years – this is a great fruition of the benevolent politics of Kim Il Sung who dedicated his all for the sake of the people, “believing in the peoples as in Heaven” throughout his whole life.

Today the Korean people are displaying the dignity and sovereignty of the nation under the benefits of the Songun politics, striving for the prosperity of the country with the high pride of living in the tax-free society.
